About LLC Easy Guide
LLC Easy Guide is part of Easy Guides, an independent publisher founded in 2025 that turns confusing official processes into plain-English steps.
Why this site exists
Almost everything written about LLCs is published by a company that sells LLC formation, registered agent service, or both. That is not automatically dishonest, but it bends the advice one way: form one, form it now, buy the package. We sell none of those things.
So this site says the unprofitable thing where it is true. Most single-member LLCs have been exempt from beneficial ownership reporting since March 2025. State filing fees run from about $35 to $500 and the expensive ones buy you nothing extra. And an S corp election usually costs more than it saves until profit is well into five figures, because payroll is not free and the 20% qualified business income deduction shrinks when you pay yourself a salary.
Who is behind it
LLC Easy Guide is produced by the Easy Guides editorial team, one of 12 sites we publish on confusing official processes. We are not a law firm, a CPA firm or a registered agent, and we say so on every page.
There is a point where you should stop reading and talk to a professional, and we try to name it rather than imply it: multiple owners, outside investment, employees in more than one state, or any question that turns on your own tax position. Below that line, the 50 state guides here are usually enough.
How we work
Guides start from primary sources: IRS publications and forms, FinCEN rules, and state filing offices. Figures that change, such as the self-employment tax wage base and the qualified business income thresholds, are checked against the current official source and dated. Our calculators show their assumptions rather than hiding them, including the costs that cut against the answer people want to hear. Full standards are in our Editorial and Fact-Check Policy.
