Not legal or tax advice
Everything here is general educational content. Choosing a business structure and electing how it is taxed have consequences that depend on your state, your industry, your income, and your personal circumstances. No article can account for those. Speak with a qualified attorney or CPA before you act.
About our calculators
Our calculators are estimating tools. The S corp calculator covers federal tax only. It does not include state income tax, state franchise taxes or annual report fees, retirement contributions, or health insurance for owners, and it models the common case below the qualified business income phase-in thresholds. Each page lists its own limits. Do not file an election based on an estimate alone.
Rules change
Tax figures change every year and rules change without much warning. The beneficial ownership reporting requirement is a good example: it applied to most new LLCs, then a FinCEN rule in March 2025 removed it for companies formed in the United States. We date our figures, and you should still confirm anything important against the official source.
